Assignment 15A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 2

1.My roommate Yinjie Meng, accounting major, 3rd year.

Yinjie's alternatives are going to the restaurant, making food at home, or ordering food delivery. He cares most about food quality and time. Only when he doesn't have enough time, he will choose to order food delivery. After purchase, he always focuses on food quality. After purchase, he cares more about food quality rather than the waiting time, too.

2. My classmate Joe, a finance major, 3rd year.

Joe's alternatives are going to the dining hall, making food at home, or ordering food delivery. Joe is very sensitive to the price. He eats at the dining hall mostly because of the cheaper expense of food on campus. Sometimes if he has to order delivery at home, he still chooses the pizza with the lowest delivery fee. After purchase, he will evaluate if the food is still warm enough.

3. My online friend David, a computer science major, 2nd year.

David goes to the restaurant or ordered food delivery, and hardly goes out to a restaurant. He is just too lazy to go to the restaurant. He says he doesn't want to waste too much time going out, waiting for food, and then to go back. Value of time matters much for David. After purchase, David cares much about waiting time.

Findings:

People values time, cost, and quality when they want to eat. While they order food delivery, they value quality and waiting time more than the price.

Conclusion:

To aim at the segment that always orders food delivery, we can focus more on food quality and delivery time. Offering more quick delivery can fit the current market anticipation.

  1. Hi Yida,

I really enjoyed reading your post today. I really appreciate the time you took to reach out to multiple people to ask them about their preferences in terms of food delivery. Personally, I think that food delivery has a lot of room for grown in the future and is a great emerging market that could be taken advantage of in the future. The fact that people have so many problems with this technology means that there is plenty of room for improvement in the future and a lot of potential money to be made. Overall, you have a great idea!

  2. Hi Yida,

I wanted to start off by saying good job on a fantastic discussion post where you sought out to address the nature of the buying behavior process in order to capitalize on how buyers choose when presented with a purchasing situation. You definitely pinpointed the fact that people value time, quality, and cost when prompted with a buying dilemma. In fact, I noticed that these are three components that honestly make up my own buying decisions.

  3. Hi Yida,
Nice organized interviews. I do agree with your opinion that most people care about the delivery speed. Quality food matters too. I think one way that can improve the quality is the way you contain the food. A standardized container will help for keeping the food in good shape. What other may helps is the impression from deliver driver to customer. I believe keeping providing smiling face and little gifts will help to keep the customers around. Great post!
